A Greenville landmark vacant for more than 11 years is about to open its doors as a "one-stop" governmental services center for Greenville and Hunt County. The building, erected in 1926, has undergone a $6 million redevelopment to house up to 100 employees of state and county agencies and accomodate an estimated 300 visitors daily.
The renovation replicates the original exterior appearance of the 8-floor Greenville National Exchange Building, while supplying the necessities for modern office space. The building has been declared a Hunt County Historical Landmark under the county's new landmark program.
Commitments from prospective tenants approach 100% occupancy of the building's 39,000 square feet of office space. Lease payments from the agencies will retire the tax exempt city bonds floated to finance the project, which is a joint effort between the City of Greenville, the State of Texas, and the Greenville Board of Development.
